Summerland Ornamental Gardens is a six-hectare array of majestic trees, lush shrubbery and colorful flower beds situated on the grounds of the Summerland Research and Development Centre. Established in 1916 to demonstrate successful gardening techniques in the dry Okanagan climate, the Gardens fulfil the same purpose today: the largest area is a Xeriscape garden of drought-tolerant and native plants. The 3Bs area emphasizes habitat for native pollinators: Bees, Birds and Butterflies.
Visitors can stroll through these areas, explore the canyon view trail, picnic by the Standing Man bed, or enjoy the cool tranquility of the Shade Garden. The Gardens are maintained solely through fundraising and memberships. Admission is by donation.
